Marbled Bamboo, Arundinaria marmorea
|This running bamboo makes a good screen or hedge if controlled. It is smaller and more tender than many bamboos, and is best in mild climates, in tubs or indoors in cold areas. Colorful canes of red, purple or sometimes pink, depending on type. Evergreen perennials with slender rhizomes that sprout erect, nearly solid canes. Chimonobambusa quadrangularis has unusual square stems that, unlike many other bamboos, can be broken from canes by hand.
Plant this spreading bamboo, a smaller cousin of Black Bamboo, in large containers or where it can roam freely. Thin stems are first creamy white and purplish brown, becoming black with age.
