Floss Silk Tree

They flower in the fall when little else is in bloom. Their trunks, with their prominent thick spines, have a primitive look. The silky seed floss was once used for stuffing pillows in their native South America. Needs good drainage.

This showy tree blooms in rich pink or reddish purple flowers. Growth is fast for the first few years, then slows. Several cultivars are available with burgundy-red and deep pink flowers.
