Easy in desert and semi-desert regions, this cactus is a looker with lots of unusual tube-shaped flowers and long, spiny stems that grow in tall columns or twist and wind around each other like snakes. Flowers, which remain closed rather than spread their petals, are filled with nectar and are pollinated by hummingbirds. Fast-growing stems may reach 6 inches in less than five years.
The stems of this succulent may be erect or lay on the ground with the ends growing upward.
