Fothergilla gardenii

Dwarf Fothergilla, Dwarf Witch Alder

Two white flowering shrubs from the eastern United States. One is a 3 to 4 foot spreader, the other grows to 9 feet tall. Their leaves offer excellent orange and scarlet fall color. Honey-scented, bottle-brush shaped blooms open before leaves develop, creating a dramatic spring show. In hot, dry summer climates, needs partial shade and extra water. Plant in peaty soil.

This deciduous shrub bears tiny flowers in 1 inch clusters. After these fade, the leaves turn red.
