Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola'
Golden Variegated Hakone Grass
|This Japanese native is grown for its delicate, bamboo-like, weeping foliage. The slow-spreading, dense clumps are excellent in woodland, Japanese, shady or semi-shady gardens and containers. The finely textured leaves contrast nicely with other, larger-leafed shade plants such as Anemone, Foxglove, Hosta and Heuchera. The green or golden leaves turn pink-red to buff in fall. Plant near water, but must have good drainage. For best color, do not grow in deep shade or hot sun. Divide in early spring.
One of the most graceful and elegant small-growing grasses, its foliage is streaked with gold and green.
