Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola'

Golden Variegated Hakone Grass

This Japanese native is grown for its delicate, bamboo-like, weeping foliage. The slow-spreading, dense clumps are excellent in woodland, Japanese, shady or semi-shady gardens and containers. The finely textured leaves contrast nicely with other, larger-leafed shade plants such as Anemone, Foxglove, Hosta and Heuchera. The green or golden leaves turn pink-red to buff in fall. Plant near water, but must have good drainage. For best color, do not grow in deep shade or hot sun. Divide in early spring.
