There is one American and one African species of these thorny shrubs to small trees. Grown only in warm regions, they are popular for their large, fragrant, yellow flowers. Their feathery foliage offers light shade. Leaves drop in drought or cold weather. Plant in lawns or as a spiny barrier. Prune fast-growing young trees in spring.
Sensitive to drought or cold, its leaves drop at the slightest provocation. Armed with sharp, deciduous thorns, the bark is otherwise smooth and green.
